Symphony No.6
2024 | Charcoal and Soft pastel on primed wood | 70 cm x 80 cm
“I used charcoal on wood and not on paper. This is the first time I’m experimenting with charcoal material on this surface. The wood is non-porous, making it extremely challenging for charcoal particles to adhere to it. This wouldn’t be possible without the material I use to prepare the surface. I remained in a state of tension and attraction with the surface of the painting until I achieved this final result. Will I repeat this material on this surface? The answer is yes, but only in areas that do not exceed 70 cm per side.” – Ali Hassaan

drawings and sketches
The contemporary drawing and sketches reveal a discerning eye for details with bold lines and dense colors, rambling street scenes of a peculiar clutter and chaos uniquely Egyptian. His portraits from the proud women whose dense black gallabia is like a pillar of strength in the landscape.
The men and their horse carriages, weathered but enduring like the ancient temples in the background.
Ali Hassaan uses charcoal, soft pastel colors on colored paper for his drawings.
