Born 1975

Ali Hassaan completed his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo, specializing in the Painting Department, in 1997. He obtained a master’s degree in Fine Arts and a Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo. Currently, he works as an assistant professor in the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Luxor.

Having moved to the city of Luxor many years ago, Hassaan’s surroundings greatly influenced the themes that he explores and the subjects that interest him. He began observing and examining the vocabulary of southern Egypt’s environment, whether it be the people or the places, in a modern way. This observation was not superficial but rather delved deeply into the essence and content of these subjects, which had a significant impact on the artworks he created.

Hassaan’s artworks present many contemporary concepts and issues faced by individuals within this environment. They are interwoven and expand to encompass what people see beyond the boundaries of their immediate surroundings, embracing the world as a whole. The artworks raise numerous questions for the viewer to ponder, inviting them to interpret the composition of elements and symbols within the framework of the design or diffused lighting, without providing clear sources, saturated colors, or specific painting techniques.

These questions ultimately come together to engage the viewer in both direct and indirect conversations. The elements within the artwork are familiar components that the eye constantly observes around us, but they are reimagined within the realm of the unknown. Through repetition and extension, they create a sense of wonder that blends with a state of visual passion during the process of observation.

Hassaan has held several solo exhibitions in Egypt and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Egypt, the Arab world, and Europe. His artworks can be found in collections at the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo, the Nubia Museum in Aswan, the Fine Arts Sector in Egypt, the British Embassy in Cairo, various state and non-governmental institutions and banks in Egypt, cultural centers, as well as in private collections throughout the Arab world and Europe.

Born 1975
Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo, Department of Painting, 1997. He received a Master Degree of Fine Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy of Painting, the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo. He works currently as an assistant professor in the Painting Department, the Faculty of Fine Arts, Luxor. He moved many years ago to the city of Luxor, which had a great impact on the topics he dealt with and interested in his works. Hassan began to monitor and deal with the vocabularies of the environment of southern Egypt whether people or places in a modern way, as this monitoring was not only a superficial observation, but Hassan goes into the depth and contents of the corresponding vocabularies, so this had a great impact on the artworks that he has produced. His artworks present a lot of modern concepts and problems facing the man in that environment and are intertwined at the same time and extended to what the man faces outside the surroundings of that environment in the world as a whole. There are many questions that are raised through the artworks in front of the viewer who tries to answer them by watching the composition of the elements and symbols placed within the framework of the design or the diffuse lighting without specifying a clear source, saturated colors or multiple techniques within the painting.
These questions come together at the end to present the viewer with direct dialogue in one part and indirect conversation in other parts. The elements in the framework of the artwork are those familiar elements that the eye always sees around us, but they are reformulated within the framework of the unfamiliar so as to create a state of astonishment mixed with a state of visual passion by repeating and prolonging the watching process of the painting. Hassan held a number of solo exhibitions inside Egypt and many group exhibitions in Egypt, the Arab world and Europe. He owns many collections of artworks at: The Museum of Modern Art in Cairo – the Nile Museum in Aswan – the plastic arts sector in Egypt, The British Embassy in Cairo, Some governmental and non-governmental institutions and banks inside Egypt, Cultural centers and with individuals in the Arab world and Europe.
